Rebounding: Benefits include painless start-up and built-in motivation!

mini trampoline rebounder

Rebounding benefits the body in so many ways that frankly, it may seem a bit unbelievable at first! Exercising using a mini trampoline is known as rebounding.

Before we look at some of the physical benefits of rebounding, I want to share some of the ways that rebounding benefits and fits so well into any lifestyle.

A busy, often stressful lifestyle could be one of the reasons that a huge percentage of the American population (over 60%) gets insufficient exercise or physical activity to maintain health. Over 20% apparently get none at all. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this is a contributing factor to the growing health problems we are experiencing in this country!

But getting started is often the biggest barrier to overcome in getting regular physical activity and exercise into your life. Another obstacle is having enough motivation to continue regular exercise. Have you ever run into either of those situations?

To the rescue comes rebounding! Benefits include painless start-up and built-in motivation!

Ease and simplicity

A mini-trampoline fits almost anywhere and is very easy to move around, so you can put it in a place that is conveniently located. Wearing loose, comfy clothes, with tennis shoes or barefoot, you just step up on it and start by gently bouncing for just a few minutes. Now that's a very realistic starting level for just about anyone. Heck, you could do it in your jammies and bunny slippers if you wanted!

I'm already experiencing some rebounding benefits even at a very low intensity and less than two months time. You will receive the benefits of rebounding at any level of intensity, whether you do the beginning "health bounce" where your feet do not leave the mat surface and the "bounce" is very small and gentle and of short duration (2 to 5 minutes a day is all it takes!) or a more intense session.

The changes in gravity (less gravitational force when you bounce up and more gravitational force when you bounce down) affect and strengthen every single cell in the body. So that's why you benefit from rebounding even when you are just starting. Your body is experiencing the gravitational change at every level of intensity.

Rebounding benefits motivation because it's enjoyable!

Rebounding is so easy to start and takes such little time and energy to do for some real benefits, so you can imagine how that alone increases motivation. But the real surprise is that it's truly enjoyable!! The gentle bouncing is easy on all the joints and muscles and actually improves their strength and flexibility. You can do it while listening to music, watching TV, talking on the phone or just looking out the windows at the trees, like I do. I like it better than jumping up and down on the bed! Heh heh heh...

Here's a video that will give you a good idea of how simple and easy rebounding is. They start with the "health bounce" and then demonstrate more vigorous movement. But all you need to do to get started is the health bounce and you'll get results. The video is in Italian in case you're wondering!

People with physical limitations can benefit from rebounding

Rebounders are used in physical therapy. I've read that people who can't stand or walk well can sit on a rebounder and gently bounce the body up and down, or sit on a chair with their legs on the rebounder and have someone bounce for them and they will receive many rebounding benefits. This will strengthen muscles and improve circulation among other health improvement gains. People with back problems or knee injuries, for example, can safely and comfortably use rebounding to assist recovery.

I developed congestive heart failure (a nasty term for a weakened heart that can't pump at its maximum) a couple of years after open-heart surgery. When I stumbled onto information about rebounding benefits and found out that it can assist the heart by gently strengthening it, I was very eager to try it.

Having such a physical limitation makes any sort of physical activity challenging. But in order to improve my health, I knew I needed to be able to participate in some regular physical activity. A challenging situation for sure. Being unable to engage in any significant type or amount of exercise, my health improvement program was limited.

I got a mini trampoline about a month and a half ago and do the "health bounce" daily for about 5 minutes at a time. I'm up to about 15 minutes total (5 minutes 3 times a day). Whoa! Here's a small list of improvements that I've personally observed (these are in addition to the benefits of rebounding that I "can't see"):

  • Decrease in bloating and fluid retention

  • Lower, more consistent blood sugar levels*

  • Lowered blood pressure

  • Increased levels of mental and physical energy

  • Better quality of sleep

  • Improved strength, especially noticeable in my torso and legs when walking and in improved posture

  • Less tension in my shoulder and back muscles, which are usually as tight as a rock

  • Increased flexibility and range of motion - I can bend down and turn my body better than I have been able to in a very long time

  • My figure is more trim; I'm seeing "dents" where fat is breaking down and reducing in my abdomen and tummy. My clothes are already looser and I feel so much better.

I have renewed hope and feel confident that I will continue to make significant gains in improving my health!

So, if you've ever felt crummy because you "knew" that you should exercise but had a hard time getting started or staying motivated, feel crummy no more. Some of the most important rebounding benefits are that it's easy, fun and safe for practically anyone.

It's a perfect way to get beneficial exercise with today's lifestyle. Easy to start, enjoyable to continue and takes such a small time investment...

As long as you find a good quality rebounder (there are cheap imitations that can cause injuries) you'll fast be on your way to a healthier, more enjoyable lifestyle!

I very highly recommend trying mini trampoline exercise.

Cheers!

Important Note: A mini trampoline, or rebounder, is not a toy. It should not be used to play on or jump wildly on. It is a piece of exercise equipment and has guidelines for safe usage. Children must be taught to use it correctly and be supervised while using it!

*I have diabetes and have been experiencing consistently lowered blood sugar levels. Rebounding benefits those of us with diabetes in many, many ways, but be sure to consult with a competent healthcare provider who can help you make any needed adjustments.
