Top 5
Quick Health Tips
These quick health tips are based on my own need for
effective ways to improve my health that don't necessarily
require a lot of time and energy to change the way I
live.
Of course, there is your intention and resulting effort
to apply these to one's lifestyle - that's vital to getting
the results you want.
But these are things that I've
found are easily accomplished with small improvements.
They're simple to pick up and
do even when first starting, or when I've gotten "out
of the habit."
When that happens, I've learned
not to automatically think "Oh, I've failed! Whaa whaa whaa!" but
instead to tell myself "Okay - that was yesterday.
Today is today and I am doing this newly" a fresh
start, in a new manner.
Choosing one quick health tip
at a time and doing it
until it's well grooved-in is generally quite effective.
It takes about 3 weeks of performing some action
regularly to groove it into a habit.
These 5 quick health tips will
give you the most "bang
for your buck" (the best result for the smallest
effort). They are very basic and essential
things that the body needs in order to function well.
-
Of all quick health tips,
number one is "Drink
water!" Virtually every job that the body performs
requires water. Unfortunately, coffee, tea, sodas and
sports drinks are not handled by the body the way water
is. For a better understanding of why water is essential
to your health, check out this article on the health
benefit of water.
- Managing negative stress is absolutely vital for
health, both physical and emotional. I say this from
hard-won
experience! You could do things for your body that
are very healthy, but if you don't manage negative
stress effectively, all your efforts are wasted.
That is mainly because stressful
situations cause your body to secrete hormones
that get you to "run from
danger." That's very useful when you're running
away from a saber-toothed tiger - but these hormones
are destructive if they are constantly being produced.
The article on "How
does stress affect health" will
give you a stable understanding of stress in relation
to health. Read "stress
management and relaxation" and "how
stress can affect your lifestyle" for a definition
of stress, plus practical suggestions about
ways to handle stress.
- Move around. You don't have
to join a gym or start (and stop) some intense exercise
program. The body requires
some physical activity each day - part of the immune
system, for example, requires muscular contraction, as
in walking, to be effective. As far as quick health
tips go, simply look at your current level of physical
activity, and then find some way that you like to get
a little
more.
There is a whole section on
this site about health
related fitness, including
a definition
of physical activity and the 4 types
of exercise that the body ultimately
needs. If "exercise" is a "bad" word
to you, have a look at this exercise
information for
a realistic look at the subject.
- Food,
nutrition and health go
hand-in-hand. There's a lot of information about
nutrition and
health that
once you understood
and can use it, will vastly improve your health. Since
this article is about quick health tips, consuming
fresh
vegetables
and fruits is key.
If you don't get any fresh fruits
or vegetables in your diet, you might as well hang
yourself by the neck now!
(Just kidding.) Don't get any? Pick a fruit and/or fresh
veggie each day and simply get yourself used to having
some regularly.
Check out the section about food,
nutrition and health here
at Improving Health and Energy which includes articles
about vegetable
nutrition facts and fruit
nutrition facts.
Yummy!
- Last, but not least of my top 5
quick health tips: Work on improving the quality and
quantity of your sleep
if
you don't sleep well or get enough sleep. Yes, you CAN
do things to improve your sleep apart from taking sleep
medication
or a shot of whiskey before you go to bed!
Drinking enough water, improving nutrition,
getting some physical activity and managing stress will
all lead
to better quality of sleep. In addition, there are small
things that you can change that will show
you how to sleep better.
It's your life and your health! Take
these quick health tips and use them to improve the quality
of your life.
Cheers!
