Lose 30 more pounds by choosing foods to help lose weight

I have a few health related goals this year, but the one I want to share is my goal to lose 30 more pounds in 2010. I lost almost 30 pounds last year, so I have a successful method now to lose weight. That hasn't been the case most of my life.

I learned about low carbohydrate eating a year ago from reading a book my new doctor prescribed - not even for weight loss but for blood sugar control. Now that I understand how carbohydrates are used by my body and that carbohydrate consumption inhibits the body from burning fat, I choose to eat low carb foods to help me lose more weight.

Watching the scale at the doctor's keep going down, seeing my shoulder bones, cheekbones and waist again keeps me motivated. My old clothes being super loose instead of popping buttons is nice too. I've found a relatively fast and easy way to lose weight that is really healthy and works for me.

Since weight loss does have its ups and downs, plateaus, "carb days" and to be realistic about setting my health goal, I broke the 30 pounds down into 12 months - 10 pounds every 4 months or 2 1/2 pounds per month - as a guideline only.

I know there will be months when I'll lose a bit more and other months that I won't lose any. But having that guideline and remembering to pat myself on the back for the progress I've really made keeps me moving along.

I also don't think of it as "going on a diet" because it's a lifestyle adjustment. I've learned to keep my life balanced more and am now enjoying setting my health goals and doing the things I need to get there as a regular part of my life.

I too have found low carbohydrate eating especially effective in losing weight. I eat a lot more fresh veggies that I ever did before plus plenty of protein. The fat content of foods is no longer an issue and counting calories is a thing of the past! It's the carbs we need to control! My craving for carbohydrates has virtually disappeared and I feel a lot better. Thanks again!
