Juicing and diabetes
Juicing
and diabetes is a subject near and dear to my heart since
I've had Type I diabetes all my life and have been juicing
to improve my health for several years.
In this article, I'm going to explain why juicing for
diabetics is one of the very best things you can do to
improve your health condition. In fact, juicing is now
known to be a powerful nutritional therapy whether or
not you have diabetes!
What is juicing?
"Juicing" is simply using a kitchen device
(called a "juicer") to extract the juice from
fruits and vegetables. The purpose of juicing fruits
and vegetables
is to get the valuable nutrition that they provide in
a fresh, concentrated, easy to digest and assimilate
way.
The primary goal of those of us with diabetes is to
keep our blood sugar levels consistent and within a certain
range in order to slow down and even prevent physical
complications that result from fluctuating blood sugar
levels over time.
The most effective method of controlling blood
sugar that I have personally
experienced is by following a
low
carbohydrate diet plus learning about the pH
balance in the human body and using it as a guide
to improving my diabetes and my health. Juicing vegetables
fits the
bill perfectly for both of these lifestyle choices!
When discussing juicing and diabetes,
the first thing that you want to be aware of is that
you should juice
vegetables, not fruit. Fruits are high in carbohydrate
(fruit sugar) that will rocket blood sugar levels. On
the other hand, most vegetables (with some exceptions
such as vegetables grown underground like carrots, potatoes
and beets) are quite low in carbohydrate but are bursting
with nutrients such as vitamins,
minerals and enzymes
that your body must have in order to function well!
Vegetable juicing particularly benefits people with
diabetes because it is low carbohydrate and thus helps
control blood sugar levels. Additionally, it improves
the pH balance of the body. The pH level of the tissues/fluids
in the body affects every function of the body, including
the function of insulin (in other words, drinking fresh
juiced vegetable juice will decrease insulin resistance
and improve metabolism in general when done on a regular
basis).
Juicing, diabetes and blood
sugar management
If you choose to adopt vegetable juicing as a way to
improve your diabetes and your health, you'll want
to ensure you test your blood sugar levels regularly
so you have the data for yourself and for your doctor
so that you can adjust your medications accordingly.
In summary, there are many benefits to juicing, especially
juicing for diabetics.
The benefits of juicing include:
- Provide vitamins,
minerals and antioxidants vital
to the healthy functioning of the body
- Improves the pH of
the fluids in the body, which contributes greatly to
improving health. The body
is healthiest at a pH of 7.4, which is slighty alkaline.
Todays diet creates an acidic body environment which
fosters illness and disease, notably cancer.
- Vegetable juicing provides essential digestive enzymes
and enzymes that the body needs for proper metabolism.
- The water content of vegetables contributes to hydrating
the body.
- Greatly assists the body
in cleansing and detoxification processes
Who knew juicing and diabetes were
so awesome together?
