Difference in saliva and urine pH levels?

by Cinda
(Missouri)

Why is my saliva a 7.8 and urine 5.5? What is that needs to be done to get everything to a neutral ph reading?

Hi Cinda,
Thanks for asking! Actually, your saliva and urine pH levels are close to the healthiest ranges for each.

Each part of the body works best within certain pH ranges - so the ideal scene is not to get everything to a neutral pH reading, but to have the saliva and/or urine within certain pH ranges when you test, which should be done at specific times of the day.

From www.naturalhealthschool.com
"If your urinary pH fluctuates between 6.0 to 6.5 in the morning and between 6.5 and 7.0 in the evening, your body is functioning within a healthy range.

"If your saliva stays between 6.5 and 7.5 all day, your body is functioning within a healthy range. The best time to test your pH is about one hour before a meal and two hours after a meal. Test your pH two days a week."

More good information on testing saliva and urine pH and how to interpret the data can be found in this article about the differences between saliva pH and urine pH readings.

"Test your saliva first thing in the morning. If it is at 7 or above, then that means your body has adequate levels of alkaline minerals.

"For urine, you'll want to check the first and second one of the day. The first urine is not as accurate as it mirrors what you had to eat the day before. The reading should be in the acidic range. If you ate more acid forming foods, it should be more acidic - more alkaline forming foods will make it less acidic."

Consuming more foods and liquids that are alkaline forming and consuming less foods that are acid forming will improve the pH balance of the body toward optimal levels.

Here is a list of acidic foods for a list of acid forming and alkaline forming foods.

Cheers,
BB
