What is cardiovascular disease?
Cardiovascular System |
The definition of cardiovascular disease is best understood
by breaking the words down and defining each part.
"Cardio-" means "of
the heart." It is from the Greek word kardia,
which means heart.
"Vascular" means "of or having vessels,
or ducts." In relation to the human body, it refers
to the system of vessels that transport blood and other
substances.
"Disease" has more than one meaning. In this
context, it means "an impairment of health or a
condition of abnormal functioning."
So the answer to the question, "what is cardiovascular
disease?" is "Any impairment or condition of
abnormal functioning of the heart and blood vessels."
Some of the primary cardiovascular
diseases and conditions,
such as high blood pressure and angina (type of chest
pain) give us reality on what cardiovascular disease
is.
There are many treatments for cardiovascular disease.
I have several cardiovascular conditions and my treatments
include some prescription medications as well as cardiovascular
activity and a low carbohydrate, healthy foods diet.
