Create a Balanced Lifestyle

by Sue
(Boston)

What a wit you have B.B.! Everyone needs to create a balanced lifestyle depending on their own unique circumstances. It isn't one size fits all.

And I couldn't agree with you more. To me a healthy lifestyle is simply doing what I can to not be too horribly unhealthy.

A glass of wine now and then, parking further from the store than I'd typically like to do and controlling my addiction to dark chocolate M&M's. Basically I try to do nothing unhealthy to excess and throw in a few more fruits and vegetables into the grocery cart.

I am one of those people that doesn't enjoy walking around the block endlessly. It's boring. Many of my neighbors a delightful but many others a noisy gossips that lurk behind their windows watching for someone to pass by so they can hold them hostage with the rumor du'jour. It's as pitiful as it is funny sometimes.

I much prefer to be out in the garden getting my hands dirty. I happen to think several hours of carting around an overly full wheelbarrow builds nice biceps and provides a well rounded exercise regimen. (I know that I've gotten more exercise than I need since I usually need to jam several aspirin down my throat for a few days to recover.)

For me it's about making more good healthy choices than unhealthy choices. I'm not going to give up my morning donut for anyone. But I do balance that out with a glass of milk and a piece of fruit.

I try to get a good nights sleep too which I know is very important. But I have become convinced that none of the researchers and health specialists on the planet have rambunctious college age boys. Create a balanced lifestyle indeed!

When they are home I spend half the night waiting up for them worried and when they aren't I spend half the night worried about where they are and praying they are okay. Between the volcanic hot flashes and the worry I'm not quite sure where to fit the sleep in sometimes.

I'm sending you wild applause for your honest, down to earth and realistic viewpoint. What a relief that someone has some common sense on how to create a balanced lifestyle!

I'm looking forward to hearing others' comments!

My Best,

Sue
