How do you boost metabolism naturally? Well, it's a lot simpler once you get the question, "What IS metabolism?" answered first.

You'll find that while "burning fat" is one thing metabolism does, it's only one part of it. Finding out what the body requires in order to increase metabolism naturally will not only help you improve your metabolism and ability of the body to burn fat, but contribute to better health in general.

A simple definition of metabolism is all the different things the body does in order to change what you eat and drink into energy and new cells. When you say, "I want to jump start my metabolism," you're saying that you want a sudden improvement in how well your body changes food into new cell tissue and energy.

There are plenty of things you can do to boost metabolism naturally. Here are a number of key things that will help you to naturally increase your metabolism.

The efficiency of metabolism utterly depends upon the quality of what you give your body for fuel. Increasing the amount of healthier, fresher foods in your diet, with a greater percentage on fresh fruits and raw vegetable added to your diet. Reduce the percentage of "junk" food and processed food that you eat.

How does this increase metabolism naturally? Well, your body doesn't work very well if you give it junk food instead of what it needs to work its best. To boost metabolism naturally, think of it like a high performance race car.

If you want the car to run fast and efficiently, you give it high quality fuel. The same principle applies to the body. If you want it to work well and burn fuel (fat and carbohydrate) efficiently, you need to give it good nutrition and minimize the junk that goes in it!

Don't fall for the myth that "fats are fattening." Fats are a key part of the nutrition of foods that your body requires, along with protein, healthy carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals, and water.

If you truly want to learn how to increase your metabolism naturally, learn what these vital nutrients are and make sure you're getting them in your diet regularly. So to boost your metabolism naturally, have a healthy, well-balanced diet.


Don't starve yourself! If you're trying to lose weight by not eating because you think that it's as simple as reducing calories - it doesn't work that way, sorry! That theory does not take into account that when you try and starve yourself, your metabolism slows way down in order to compensate.


Another thing that will jump start metabolism is to drink enough water each day. Why? Because practically everything the body does in order to survive depends upon water. Your metabolism and the body's cleansing and detoxification processes all "use up" water, so it must be replaced.

A health benefit of water is its role in fat metabolism. The "rule of thumb" is to drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces per day. Replace sodas with water, mineral water and tea, especially diet soft drinks. Artificial sweeteners mess up metabolism because they are toxic and the body can't process them. Carbonated drinks contribute to an acidic body pH and that negatively affects metabolism.


There are more things that will boost metabolism naturally because learning how to boost metabolism is equivalent to learning how to improve your health! But the most important thing to start with is working on eating healthier foods because that's what your metabolism, your health and weight ultimately depend upon!
