Balance

by Alisa
(Canada)

I've gone through many health phases, and met many health conscious people in many different ways. Some people think that attitude and spirituality are all they need to have clean karma and be "healthy"...but diet was an ignorant issue. Some people are the other way around, eating the healthiest most ethical foods and exercising every day to a point of obsessiveness that I consider to be highly unhealthy.

Here's what didn't work for me:

- Over-exercising and in turn, over-eating

- Improper dieting (too restricting) and then binging to make up for lost indulgences

- Being a vegetarian but not sticking to my values, and led astray by peer pressure

- Eating junk and then using supplements to make up for it

- Adopting a strict regime that eventually became too strict and left me out of many social situations

- Eating a balanced organic diet (super foods, sprouts, fresh juice and the like)...but neglecting the sleep and exercise factor of physical health

Here's what did work for me:

- A combination of physical and emotional well-being...focusing on spiritual growth as a basis to be guided by intution and not led astray.

- Doing a bit of yoga every morning and every night....this helped push all the toxins out of my body, gave me energy and limberness throughout the day, and just an overall healthy feeling that promoted eating healthy too.

- Not obssessing over diet (my own and my child's). Recognizing that we live in a real world with too many temptations...a bit of moderate indulgence here and there might be more healthy than restricting myself all the time.

- Taking time to rest, sleep, stretch and bathe when needed, even when there are a million-and-one things that "need to be done".

- Intuitively following my body's guidance for what to eat, instead of constantly seeking outside sources...and being confused and bombarded with different opinions of "what's healthy".

- Educating myself on the food industry and pharmaceuticals (so many blatant lies!!!), learning about "alternative" nutrition and antioxidants.

- Weed juice and chocolate for health? You got it!

Thank you Alisa! I totally agree, I've also found the key to living a healthy lifestyle is a good balance of physical and emotional factors.

Education and understanding of what is actually healthy nutrition and what is not has been integral to improving my own health.

Cheers,
BB
